Synopsis of duties
• Providing face to face 1-1 mentoring sessions for approximately 8 young people across two schools who will have been identified as being at-risk students already within or at high risk of entering the criminal justice system
• You will play a crucial role in supporting vulnerable and at-risk young people overcome challenges, set and achieve academic and personal goals, and make informed positive choices that reduce their risk of offending and entry into the criminal justice system.
• Addressing individual student needs and challenges, utilising personal experiences, local knowledge, professional skills and programme materials to offer support and intervention.
• Assisting students in setting and achieving academic, personal, and career goals.
Essential Requirements
• You will have a deep understanding of the complex issues and challenges facing vulnerable young people and be experienced in supporting young people involved in or at risk of entry into the Criminal Justice System.
• We are looking for someone who has relevant direct or indirect experience of the criminal justice system, or experience of the issues facing this client group (substance misuse, drug supply, gangs or knife crime, social exclusion and isolation, child criminal exploitation, adverse childhood experiences and trauma)
• A proactively emotionally resilient Mentor that can engage positively and successfully with challenging individuals, including those with complex needs, reluctance to discuss their needs and emotional turmoil
• Enhanced DBS registered on the DBS Update Service would be desirable, however, a new DBS can be processed if appointed
