Job description

NRS UK is recruiting for caring and skilled Residential Support Workers at an Ofsted rated Good Children's home in Nottingham.

My client takes a holistic approach to caring for the Children and young people in their care, and is seeking to employ like-minded individuals that have a true passion for adding value to the lives of young people.

Having achieved an Ofsted rating of Good at their last inspection, the Children's home is now looking to build on this success by further growing their team.

Job Purpose:

To provide a safe and secure home for young people aged between 10 and 17. Promoting a caring environment which provides children and young people with a high standard of specialised, tailored care, meeting individual needs and ensuring everyone is treated with respect and dignity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Working under the direction of the Registered Manager/Assistant Manager, actively contribute to the provision of quality of care, within which the health, welfare, education and development of young people is promoted and to promote a coherent ethos of care, consistent with the overall culture of the company and the Homes statement of purpose.

2. To contribute towards the maintenance of a positive, safe and homely environment, including the promotion of a warm and accepting atmosphere, where the safety and care of young people is paramount. Working with the Registered Manager/Assistant Manager to ensure proper and appropriate nurturing for all young people with particular attention to the provision of primary care in matters of food, health, clothing and environment

3. In conjunction with the Registered Manager/Assistant Manager work proactively with and direct the team within the daily routine and agreed structures of the house, to include for example day to day parenting responsibilities, undertaking daily household responsibilities such as domestic chores, cooking, shopping, taking young people to appointments/meetings, planning out the day and participation in activities with the young people and supporting in education.

4. To work in partnership with parents, social workers, agencies and other professionals linked to the young person’s care plan to effectively fulfil the responsibility of parenting the young people, ensuring the maintenance of family contact where appropriate.

5. As directed by the Registered Manager/Assistant Manager undertake keyworker responsibility for individual young people in the house focusing on the specific needs identified in the care plan. Contribute to the writing of the care plan, implementing and monitoring progress.

6. To follow and act in accordance with all relevant aspects of legislation, regulation, and the company’s Policies and Procedures. Ensure own understanding of how such issues are interpreted and followed in practice, keeping up to date with changes.

7. To work collectively with team members and advise on using effective therapeutic care practice, de-escalating and diversionary strategies and recognised techniques to manage young people who exhibit challenging, threatening and confrontational behaviour. Consistently act in accordance with company Behaviour Management policy and ensure appropriate recording of incidents, accidents or physical injury.

8. Working in conjunction with team members to ensure the creation and maintenance of a culture, which shows in practice and knowledge an understanding of the differing cultural, racial and religious needs of young people. Work constructively to enhance the positive value of working with difference to challenge attitudes and practice, which are inappropriate or unacceptable within the ethos of the house.

9. To work effectively with and advise on complex cases and situations, including key work, successfully integrating theory and practice.

10. To assume responsibility for the operation of the home when acting as shift leader or when on the on-call rota.

11. Take the lead in decision making, ensure paperwork is completed to the required standards, and ensure effective handovers take place at the beginning and end of each shift.

12. Undertake appropriate training, including any refresher training in specified areas as identified by the Registered Manager or Assistant Manager.

13. To fully abide by and follow all the company’s Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective working practices for the staff, young people and people visiting the premises.

14. Take responsibility for a designated area of work, or practice development as directed by the Registered Manager or Assistant Manager.

15. In conjunction with the Registered Manager or Assistant Manager, develop a positive public profile of the service ensuring good communication, relationships and that staff represent the service in a professional way.

16. To actively promote and participate in care planning, developing risk assessments, behaviour management and to attend regular team meetings.

17. Accompanying children and young people on recreational activities and demonstrating positive role modelling.

18. Working as part of a team to provide a programme of evening & weekend activities for children and young people and to effectively manage small budgets, in relation to this.

19. To attend home visits and to provide a specialist outreach service to young person, family and carers, as and when required.

20. To participate in case reviews where necessary and to provide support and assistance when difficulties arise.

21. Assisting with the medical and physical needs of children and young people and to ensure that all young people are encouraged to take part at some level, no matter what the ability. Promoting of young people reaching their own targets.

22. Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons that the jobholder is responsible for, or comes into contact with and to regularly stay updated in relation to any changes within safeguarding legislation and policy.

23. To report immediately to management any noticeable changes in health, behaviour or circumstances of our children and young people – maintaining their right to privacy and confidentiality.

24. To be a key member of the care team and has the ability to work within a team.

25. To be innovative, creative and flexible, and has an open mind and a willingness to learn.

26. Able to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity, self-awareness and acceptance of others.
