VACANCY - Clerk to Governors
Sefton Park Infant and Junior Schools are federated Infant and Junior Schools and served by one Governing Board. The schools offer a holistic and child centred approach to education where children can learn and grow in a caring and exciting environment.
The Sefton Park Infant and Junior Schools governing body would like to appoint a Clerk to work with and fully support the Governors in their strategic role.
Start date: 1st May 2024
Salary: BG8 (£26,873 – £28,770pa, pro rata)*
Contract: Permanent, part time and term time only
Working pattern: 132 hours per annum
The post is a part-time position, covering 6 Full Governing Body meetings and 12 committee meetings per academic year. There is a possibility of extra meetings over the year which would be paid additionally. Working hours are flexible and suited to working from home. All meetings are held in term time only.
The clerk is expected to provide 15 hours of support to the Governing Body for each Full Governing Body meeting (including the aspects below covering training, professional development, updating governors and maintaining necessary records) and 3.5 hours of support for each committee meeting.
Each Full Governing Body meeting is held during the evening Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 7pm to 9pm. One daytime meeting is held per year, with extensive notice. Committee meetings are held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 6.30 or 8.00pm usually for 1 – 1.5 hours.
The Role:
The Clerk to the governors is central to the smooth running of the governing body: preparing agendas, taking and distributing minutes, offering administrative support, keeping records and giving procedural and legislative advice to the governing body.
Candidates must have:
· Have a good working knowledge and understanding of efficient administrative support and demonstrate ability to deliver.
· Excellent organisation and communication skills
· Excellent ICT skills
· An ability to take accurate minutes at meetings.
To help the successful applicant fulfil their role we expect them to attend all relevant training events and the Clerk’s Network meetings. Bespoke introductory training is provided for new clerks by Governor Development Services (GDS). GDS provide continued support to clerks in terms of giving procedural and legislative advice and any candidates who would like to find out more about the role are welcome to get in touch with GDS directly in advance of making an application.
