Job description

Our Client Affairs Team within Adults' Health and Care provides a Deputyship and Appointeeship service of last resort for vulnerable adults who have been assessed as lacking capacity to manage their own property and financial affairs.
As a Client Affairs Case Officer with the responsibility for a caseload of clients, you'll ensure their income is maximised and their assets are safeguarded from abuse and exploitation. In accordance with the Mental Capacity Act, you'll empower people to make decisions where they can, or make decisions in their best interests with regard to their known beliefs, wishes and preferences.
Working closely with clients, their relatives, carers, and professional support, you'll manage your clients' resources effectively to meet their needs and improve their quality of life. By visiting your clients, you'll develop and maintain effective relationships, gaining valuable insight into their needs and aspirations.
Your knowledge of the state benefits payable by the Department for Work and Pensions, as well as an understanding of eligibility and entitlement, is essential. We regularly liaise with the Court of Protection and Office of the Public Guardian, so an awareness of their role and purpose is desirable.
As well as a person-centred approach to your work, you'll have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong numeracy, budgeting and IT skills will also be key. You'll have the confidence to work independently, organise your own workload, and manage conflicting demands and competing deadlines in an assured manner. Working with professional curiosity, creativity and innovation, you'll ensure the best outcomes for your clients, with the confidence to challenge the accepted or expected view when advocating on behalf of your client.
Travel Requirements
You will be required to travel to various locations within Hampshire or other local authority, and it is essential that you have a current drivers' licence and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.
Values Based Recruitment:
We recruit for attitudes and values in Adults' Health and Care. We invite you to evidence how you demonstrate our 5 core values in your application. For more information on our values, please refer to the candidate pack.

This post is subject to a Criminal Records Check.
