Climate Change Professional Trainee
Cynllun Yfory is a unique opportunity for anyone with a degree or a qualification which is equivalent or higher to develop a career at Gwynedd Council.
The scheme is an unique opportunity for a Professional Trainee to understand more about working in local government by getting various practical experiences from all levels of the organisation, to develop essential skills in the communication and engagement area, to develop their networks across the Council and beyond while at the same time gaining a Msc in Climate Professional Trainee.
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a commitment to developing strong interpersonal and technical skills in this specialist area. The successful candidate will gain experience in a number of specialist areas within the communication and engagement field, with a view to developing to become one of the future managers and leaders in this important discipline.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT TRAINING
ESSENTIAL
You must have or are expected to be awarded a 2:2 degree or higher.
Your degree should be in a subject relevant to the field - Business Studies, Climate Change, Environmental Management, Project Management. You are eligible to apply even if you graduated years ago.
You hold a GCSE Grade C or above in Mathematics, Welsh, English and Science

Able to follow a conversation or discussion through the medium of Welsh and English on a professional level and discuss general day to day topics in the field in order to present information and express opinions.
Able to give a pre-prepared presentation and respond to any comments and questions on it in Welsh or English.
READING AND COMPREHENSION - HIGHER LEVEL
Able to understand standard written Welsh and English; both formal and informal.
Able to gather information from various sources such as letters, reports, articles through the medium of Welsh and English in order to fulfil the post.
WRITING - HIGHER LEVEL
Present written information confidently by letter, more detailed and technical report formats, and respond to written requests conveying information, ideas and opinion in Welsh and English (help is available to check the work).

Main Duties
If you are passionate about helping improve the environment and want to work in a rapidly developing field, then this could be your dream job.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively are more important than having specific technical knowledge for this role. The successful candidate will need to be able to build and develop relationships working on multiple plans and projects simultaneously. This is a great opportunity for you to shape and influence how Gwynedd Council responds to the climate crisis and delivers the Climate and Nature Emergency Plan.
Be aware of up-to-date developments and factual evidence in Climate Change and provide appropriate advice on that to the Programme Manager and Climate Change Response Board .
Be alive to Welsh Government, Westminster and international policies in the field reporting so that the Board needs to on key issues that may have been relevant to their field;
Assist the Programme Manager in providing advice and guidance on how to meet the requirements within the Climate Change field.
Work together with elected members, officials at all levels and stakes holders in various fields to assist them in meeting the requirements in the field.
Lead on work streams within the Climate and Nature Emergency Plan acting as manager on individual projects on demand.
Analyze documents/information identifying or recommending steps for response.
Assist in developing business cases, identifying funding sources and preparing grant applications
Prepare and report to various audiences.
Deliver training.
Support and harmonise departments' efforts to ensure they deliver part of the Climate Change response Plan projects most effectively highlighting duplication when existing
Support the implementation of the communications plan attached to the Climate and Nature Emergency Plan.
Represent the council at any regional or sub-regional overview meetings relating to Climate Change and report back to the Board as required;
Be responsible for coordinating Board meeting arrangements.
