Job description


This role supports the delivery of simulation-based education (SBE) across East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT). The post holder will be part of DERI, based within the Clinical Education Team. Under the direction of the Simulation and Clinical Assessment Lead, the core aspect of the role will be to provide SBE programmes to all staff groups, working closely with content experts, course/ program leaders and clinical simulation faculty. You will develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate SBE across ELHT with an ultimate aim of improving patient care and experience.
The post-holder will work with busy clinicians and managers across all areas of the Trust and will need to promote the benefits of using SBE. The role will provide expert advice on how SBE can be used to enhance the learning experience.
The post holder will be required to work in a busy and demanding environment and should be able to work autonomously without direct supervision and to exercise initiative.
You will be typically based in simulated clinical environments within the Learning and Development Centres, the new state of the art Simulation Suite or within clinical areas to facilitate in situ simulation. You must be flexible, as although your normal working hours will be over a five day week Monday to Friday, you may be required to work during the evening and weekends on occasion as required.
Main duties include:
• Support the Clinical Education Team and the wider ELHT simulation faculty in their training capability to deliver SBE
• Provide advice, assistance and trouble-shooting support to faculty
• Audit the of the quality of SBE
• Design, implement and evaluate healthcare simulation-based learning and assessment activities in alignment with curricular goals
• Facilitate an adult learning process that creates a safe, non-threatening climate
• Implement, facilitate and debrief simulation-based learning and assessment activities as assigned using a variry of modalities
• Mentor faculty and divisional educators in the designing and implementation of simulations
• Network with other simulation educators
• Support the continued professional development of Band 2 to 4
• Be an ambassador for patient safety and have an understanding of emotional intelligence and human factors and embedded throughout SBE programmes
• Undertake medical student OSCE examiner training and examine on a regular basis
• Provide leadership and guidance to the Simulation Technician.
• Evaluate service delivery, identifying areas for improvement and initiate change as required.
• To meet the needs of the organisation, following discussion, provide cover to the other DERI teams. this will ensure that workload pressures and absences are dealt with using the appropriate resources.
