Job description

A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
Working within the Senior Team in the Children’s Emergency Department and Emergency Medicine Clinical Education Team. The post holder will provide clinical and educational support for the nursing team within the Children’s Emergency department (CED).
The post holder, in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Managers will play a major role in identifying and assessing the CED Teams Professional Development needs and will be responsible for coordinating and participating in the delivery of appropriate training programmes for trust staff and apprentices.

• Ensure that all Trust wide standards are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of total care to all who come into contact with the Emergency and Children’s Services.
• Comply with health and safety legislation, promoting high standards and acting immediately in response to hazards or unsafe practices in conjunction with other staff.
• Participate in team, professional and personal development activities and promote a commitment to continuous professional development and improvement.
• Take on agreed duties in accordance with the grade and nature of the post.
• Cover the work of colleagues during periods of absence or peak workloads.
• Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the post as designated by the Group Director of Nursing / Modern Matron / Band 7 Practice Educator.

• Work clinically alongside nurses who are new starters, newly qualified or require specific support
• Support nursing team to audit and evaluate nursing care.

• Act as a clinical role model promoting the professional image of nursing within the Trust and ensuring that nursing practice is in accordance with the Trust’s policies and procedures and statutory nursing bodies’ legislation.
• Establish good working relationships with multidisciplinary colleagues within the Trust and the University.
• Maintain own clinical competency in line with the NMC Code of Professional standards of practice for nurses, midwifes and nursing associates.
• Available to be rostered for a minimum of one clinical shift 0.4 WTE per week, this may be increased dependent on service needs.
• Advise on service activities and controlling risks as appropriate.
Organise workload to have a positive impact and effective management of the education of the Children’s Emergency Department Nursing Team.
• Provide clear guidance, supervision, and support the process to monitor and evaluate professional development plans for staff and apprentices as appropriate.
• Work in collaboration with Practice Education Team, GDNA, Modern Matron and Ward Managers in identifying and developing a training needs analysis for the Ward / Departments teams.
• Ensure training needs documentation systems are maintained.
• Assist the Band 7 in planning, co-ordinating and participating in delivery of training programmes, to address the Paediatric Nursing Teams professional development requirements, and taking into account group specific (NQ Nurse, Rotation NQ, Flexi Nurse, Experienced Nurse, Trained Nursing Associate and Apprentices)
• Liaise with the Senior Paediatric Nursing Team to establish specific service need requirements
• Maintain systems to ensure feedback from study days and courses to cascade knowledge within the team.
• Work alongside the ward managers and Practice Educators to evaluate rotation programmes within the department.
• Where appropriate work towards shared learning and development opportunities for Paediatric nurses within the Trust.
• Ensure all newly qualified and new starters to the department have appropriate induction programmes and support of mentors.
