Supporting the Tier 1 doctors and ANNPs in making appropriate plans when attending deliveries, reviewing babies thought to be unwell both on labour ward and the post-natal ward, or those with additional care needs as identified through neonatal alerts and post-natal checks. Leading the team at high risk deliveries (ie those born preterm or antenatally identified problems) with consultant support as required. Performing required tasks and procedures on the neonatal unit such as intubation, venepuncture and cannulation, and umbilical lines and percutaneous long lines. We would expect the successful applicant to be able to be competent in performing these tasks without supervision, and to be comfortable supervising more junior trainees. Attending neonatal ward rounds and ensuring required tasks are carried out this will involve team work to ensure the most appropriate person completes the necessary tasks, which for example may involve prescriptions of medications and parental nutrition, requesting tests and completing administrative tasks such as referrals on to other specialties. Working with the MDT to oversee safe discharge of patients including ensuring quality of discharge letters, referrals and on-going follow-up is arranged. Our neonatal unit has a strong focus on research. We encourage all our junior doctors to be GCP trained and to be involved in any ongoing studies. This may include identifying potential participants, performing tasks and procedures associated with the trials, including assessing eligibility, consent and recruitment.
