Job description

Clinical Lead - It Takes A Village (ITAV)

Reference number: SC06702

Location: London

Schedule: Full-Time

Salary Range: £56,271 - £69,990

Contract Type: Permanent

About Southwark:

We are the largest local authority social landlord in London, managing 55,000 homes lived in by 40% of Southwark’s residents. We are home to over 18,300 businesses including iconic London venues and social enterprises and we have a young, diverse and growing population.

At Southwark we are committed to making our borough just and fair and are taking positive action to tackle inequalities.  Our residents and communities are our greatest asset and the passion we have for Southwark is shared by millions of Londoners who enjoy our outstanding cultural offer, use our hospitals and attend our universities. Our refreshed borough plan and focus on Southwark Stands Together, (which is our work with Southwark’s communities and the council’s staff to tackle racism, injustice and inequality) underpins all that we do.

About the role:

Are you passionate about closing the gap and helping those deemed ‘hard to reach’ to live their best lives? Do you enjoy collaborating with other service providers and local communities to bring together A Village of support? Are you fiercely committed to anti-discriminatory practice? Do you believe that our statutory services need to keep on learning and improving? If so, we would love to hear from you! This is an opportunity for an exceptional trailblazer in one of the most exciting, rewarding and challenging roles in health and social care.

You will need to be able to assess complex needs and both deliver and support others in the delivery of evidence-based therapeutic services to adults experiencing multiple disadvantages and so we are looking for a registered mental health professional or a social worker with specific training in mental health. You will also need to have experience of supervising and line managing health/social care staff from a range of different professional backgrounds and of planning services and setting performance targets in a public or voluntary sector organisation. Candidates with lived experience of mental health and social care issues and those from minority groups are particularly encouraged to apply as we highly value the additional perspectives lived experience adds to professional experience.

The ITAV programme is hosted by Southwark Council’s Children’s and Adults Services, but is jointly funded by the local authority and South East London’s Integrated Commissioning Board, and will be working closely with the South London & Maudsley and Guys & St. Thomas’s NHS Trusts amongst others.

If you’re interested in exploring whether this role is right for you, get in touch Dr. Jenny Taylor, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Director for Clinical Services jenny.taylor@southwark.gov.uk

The successful applicant will lead Southwark’s innovative It Takes a Village (ITAV) programme, aimed at ensuring our residents with the most complex health and social care needs, and most significant experience of multiple disadvantage and discrimination, receive the care they need to thrive.  The ITAV team works both through assisting existing professional networks that are struggling to provide effective help by providing them with an ITAV coach, and also works directly with individuals that are stepping down from statutory services or are not currently under their care with our ITAV+ workers.

Key to the work of the ITAV programme is learning from the client group and their community and voluntary sector networks of support, and feeding this learning back into all our partner agencies (adult and children’s social care, physical and mental health, housing) at the highest level to influence service design, training, facilities, inclusion criteria, support for staff etc.

About you

This post-holder will directly manage and clinically supervise a team of six ITAV Coaches and ITAV+ workers and will also oversee our Southwark Pause project which works with women who have had multiple children removed from their care.  The role will involve work across service boundaries and with statutory and voluntary bodies outside the council and will be supported by a project coordinator.  You will support services and organisations coming into contact with vulnerable adults to be trauma informed, strengths-based, and work together more effectively to reduce the cost of reactive care across the system. Using creative ideas and tools you will be supporting and strengthening the use of experts by experience voice and participation, particularly for those who find it hard to feed into services and systems change.

The successful applicant will collaborate with commissioners and providers across Southwark and report to our Partnership Southwark Board to ensure that the programme creates real and lasting change in how we provide services in Southwark.

Additional Details:

This post requires a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) DBS check at enhanced level.

Benefits and more information:

In your role, we want you to feel supported, challenged and rewarded. You will benefit from our family-friendly policies including flexible working, home working, and a local government pension scheme, plus many other staff benefits. You will join a motivated, driven and supportive team that strives for excellence and values its members. You will also be part of a successful and high-achieving development team that is making a real difference to the lives of residents in the borough. For more information about the wide variety of benefits you can take advantage of please visit our Staff Benefits page.
