Job description

We believe that individuals who display challenging behaviours, including those with a mental health condition, should have the same opportunities to live satisfying and valued lives.
The service was developed in response to the best means of supporting our people with a learning disability and autism at a critical time in their journey, offering the least restrictive environment and ensuring that we provide the best response to those users of the service who needs specialist support, together with their carers and families.
The post holder will hold a relevant clinical qualification to a degree level in Learning Disability and have experience working within Learning Disability and Autism services.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, they will manage a caseload of patients with learning disability and mental health needs, using evidence-based practice.
They are required to take a lead role in the leadership of junior staff and support assistants through supervision, training and appraisal.
1. Provide a range of interventions and assessments of people who have a learning disability and present with a mental illness and or severe challenging behaviour, taking into consideration the patient’s physical/cognitive/perceptual skills to identify the patient’s abilities and areas of difficulty.
2. Expected to work within a values-driven, recovery-based approach that embeds the Positive Behaviour Support framework. Post holders will have experience working with people who have a learning disability and either mental ill-health and complex behavioural needs
3. To be responsible for organising and prioritising own caseload in the day-to-day allocation of work whilst being able to work flexibly to meet the needs of their patients, their relatives and carers and the service.
4. To deputise when required in the absence of the Team/Service Lead and delegate appropriately to more junior staff members, support workers and rehabilitation assistants as appropriate.
5. To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.
6. To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
7. To ensure effective team-level risk management by accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register.
Full details are in the Job Description.
