Our team in Endoscopy Services at Royal Lancaster Infirmary are lookingfor ahighly motivated and passionate individual toprovidestrong visible leadership to deliver the highest standards of professional care to ourpatients .
You will be working as a Endoscopy co-ordinator, based within the unit and undertake rotational role in shift co-ordination and Inpatient Liaison Nurse.
The service operates 7 days between 08:00 and 18:30. Weekend working is an essential part of the role.
Inpatient Liaison is a newly established role which focuses on the assessment and prioritisation of inpatients who require endoscopic evaluation and or/therapeutic endoscopic intervention. In collaboration with the clinical team, the successful candidate will work in partnership with wards and departments toprovideeducation and assessment,in order tofacilitatea safe andappropriate transferto the endoscopy environment.
As a Clinical Lead on Endoscopy, you will be responsible for the daily coordinating of the Endoscopy Unit while also supporting the Band 7 Unit Manager in the development of staff and the provision of excellence in all standards of nursing. You will provide daily on the floor leadership to the staff within the Endoscopy Unit supporting quality auditing of standards and flow of patients, through all endoscopy rooms in a timely and safe manner. You will be expected to have strong experiential knowledge of working at a senior band 5 level in Endoscopy. You will support the team through daily challenges with positivity, an open mind to change and the achievement of the best patient experience always being uppermost in the team's care delivery. You will further support the unit to maintain key accreditation standards that demonstrate excellent delivery of safety and patient experience.
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Co-ordinate the provision of high quality patient care, ensuring that the service continually meets the needs of patients.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of their role and responsibilities by co-ordinating each shift.
  • Operate the scheme of delegation, as directed by the Ward/Dept Manager, so that staff are aware of their responsibilities and accountabilities for patient care.
  • Ensure that all staff (including students, temporary, part time nursing staff and junior members of the multidisciplinary clinical teams) are trained and educated in the appropriate skills to deliver competent and timely patient care.
  • Provide support to all staff (including students, temporary, part time nursing staff and junior members of the multidisciplinary clinical teams) to ensure they are supported and supervised in a way that promotes patient well-being and staff development.
  • Assist Ward/Dept Manager with recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Responsible for stock levels on ward/dept with manager.
  • Responsible for staff cover e.g: Duty Rota, audits, appraisals etc.
  • Development of protocols within Clinical Areas.
  • Responsibility to safeguard Patients Property.
  • Supervise the effective utilisation of the nursing resource to provide a safe level of patient care taking into account individual staff preferences and financial constraints.
  • Act as an effective role model for all ward staff.
  • Ensure patient/carer views are sought and incorporated into the development and improvement of practice.
  • Monitor the standards of cleanliness within the ward/dept area and report deficits to the Ward/Dept Manager.
  • Coordinate nurse led initiatives pertaining to specific area according to trust policy and protocols.
To provide a dedicated inpatient liaison and outreach service to ensure appropriate triage and listing of inpatient referrals, in order to maximise patient safety and efficiency.
Assess and determine the appropriateness of referral
Work in partnership with wards and departments to prepare and consent patients to facilitate safe transfer to the endoscopy environment
Provide guidance to ward nursing and medical staff, with regards to pre-procedural preparation and post procedural requirements
Act as a point of contact for ED services for a range of emergency admissions that may require endoscopic evaluation/therapy
To develop and assist in the delivery of training courses for registered nurses, nursing assistants and healthcare assistants, within Endoscopy services, across the North West region.
