Job description

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Clinical Academic SCREDS scale (£43,504 - £64,461 per annum), with placement according to qualifications and experience

The post is tenable for the duration of the normal extended training period, i.e. until the end of ST4.

This post is intended to allow General Practice Specialty Trainees to develop their academic/research training in parallel with their clinical training. It will add a year's equivalent of academic training and experience to your GPST post and allow you to launch your clinical academic career.

Based within the School of Medicine and with a position in the relevant Specialty Training Programme, you will join a committed and enthusiastic team of clinicians, researchers and educators, providing an excellent opportunity to develop expertise through a planned programme of specialty training ensuring professional, academic and personal development.

Your priorities will include:

Academic Objectives of post

Anticipated research focus

  • General Practice is a broad discipline, and we encourage early career GP academics like you to develop your own research interests in collaboration with us

Academic environment and supervision

  • You will be based in the Population Health and Genomics Division on the Ninewells Hospital site, where a number of health services research and epidemiology groups work
  • There are major research strengths in clinical and precision medicine, data science and related disciplines at the University of Dundee, particularly in the Medical School (https://www.dundee.ac.uk/medicine). Strong links also exist with other Schools in the University.

Clinical service and training objectives of post

  • Clinical training objectives/CCT achievement/specialist specific issues
  • Complete GP specialist training, obtain MRCGP and CCT

Who we're looking for:

GP SCREDS Clinical Lecturer posts are clinical training posts, constructed to enable post holders to spend two years (GPST3 and an additional GPST4) with 50% of training time pursuing academic activity over the two years and 50% completing your clinical training.

The post, which is available immediately, is tenable for the duration of the training period until attainment of CCT. It is open to holders of a National Training Number (NTN) in General Practice in the Scotland Deanery who will enter GPST2 or GPST3 in August 2024.
