Centre for Inflammation Research / Institute for Regeneration and Repair

Full-Time: 40 hours per week

Fixed-Term Contract: 2 years

We are looking for a surgical trainee with interests in academic surgery, human factors, and non-technical skills applied to operative surgery. PVG registration and occupational health clearance are requisites for this post.

The Opportunity:

Join a multidisciplinary research group with international collaborations to advance the science of surgical sabermetrics: advanced analytics of digitally recorded surgical training and operative procedures to enhance insight, support professional development, and optimize clinical and safety outcomes.

It requires an individual with a specific skillset who is medically qualified and has experience in surgical education. An Honorary NHS contract will be sought for the successful post-holder. You therefore must be eligible to hold an honorary contract with NHS Lothian, and must also be registered with the General Medical Council. Salary will be determined on the basis of previous service in the NHS training grades. Normally you will be matched to your current incremental point or nearest equivalent. If currently a member of the NHS Pension Scheme and employed in a clinical post it may be possible to remain a member of the NHS Pension Scheme.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Completed Core Surgical Training and have an interest in academic surgery
  • Qualified medical practitioner
  • Registered with GMC
  • Satisfactory completion of 2-year Foundation Programme
  • Completion of MRCS or equivalent curriculum
  • Past presentations at national or international conferences
