Job description

The Clinical Safety Team are responsible for leading programmes of work to improve safety and clinical outcomes for patients as well as working with clinical services to implement a range of quality improvement initiatives. Key areas of patient safety work include thrombosis, sepsis, acute kidney injury and improving the response to patient deterioration. Quality improvement programmes of work vary according to the Trust Quality Priorities and national CQUIN programmes and include working with clinical teams to improve patient pathways to reduce unwarranted variation in practice and to ensure that practice follows the best evidence base. The team are also responsible for overseeing and reporting on the Trusts quality schedule which is reported monthly to the commissioners. The post holder, as part of the Clinical Safety Team, will provide support to clinical teams in the Trust who are engaged in clinical quality improvement. With direction and support of senior team members of the Clinical Safety team, promote safe and reliable healthcare, and achievement of the goals and corporate objectives relating to improvement in patient safety and quality. In addition, work to ensure the continuing development of a proactive quality and patient safety culture and practice throughout the organisation. Working with supervision of senior team members, this post holder will help have a caseload of ongoing clinical quality improvement projects, some of which will include CQUINs and Patient Safety Alerts. Responsible for the delivery and management of a range of clinical improvement projects (which may include CQUINs) across the Trust, working with clinical service lines to define, implement and evidence improvement. This may utilise a number of mechanisms such as clinical audit, data collection and reporting, and surveys. Work in collaboration with the Clinical Safety and improvement team to produce CQUIN reports for internal governance reporting and external commissioner reporting. Work in collaboration with the members of the Clinical Safety team and manage a range of patient safety work streams, which deliver the requirements of the Trusts Quality Priorities and Quality Schedule. Analyse complex data and information to deliver robust reporting, evidencing quality improvement progress and achievement. Ensure effective assurance reporting, both internal and external to the Trust, flagging areas of recognition or concern and leading on remedial action where required. Work in collaboration with the Clinical Safety team in supporting the Trusts approach to a culture of improvement and safety, where patient safety remains integral to everyday business. Provide support, training and information to staff in relation to quality improvement. Support the identification and interpretation of trends and themes in patient safety incidents to determine key lines of work for the Trust. Support in the management and leadership of junior staff in the Clinical Safety team.
