Job Introduction

Community Learning MK, Adult Education has been serving the educational needs of adults in Milton Keynes for more than 30 years.

We’re seeking a qualified and experienced tutor to deliver non-accredited British Sign Language courses to beginners and the more experienced, with a view to possibly offering accredited Level 1 in the future. You’ll be qualified to at least a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTTLS) and have at least two years’ experience teaching adults.

We’re based at a dedicated Learning Centre in Central Milton Keynes Library although we offer courses in centres around the city so you may be required to work in a variety of locations. CLMK Adult Education is a Good Provider as rated by Ofsted and Matrix. An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

Main Responsibility

  • Plan and deliver education to adults, teaching and learning using approved planning tools e.g., scheme of work, session plan, individual learning plans, and practitioner reviews.
  • Apply the full range of teaching/learning and assessment strategies in the delivery of courses to meet the needs of the community and the targets set by the organisation.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Managers and other professional colleagues to develop and implement all quality assurance arrangements and contribute to the Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records to comply with funding rules and Ofsted quality requirements.
  • Work to comply, promote and contribute to all practices and policies including Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Prevent, on-line safety, and Equality and Diversity.
  • Commit to the Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training including adhering to the principles and practice of Continuous Professional Development.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A qualified teacher to at least AET Level 3 (or be working towards a recognised teaching qualification) with two years' experience of teaching adults.
  • This is a sessional position and teaching opportunities are subject to courses recruiting sufficient enrolments.
  • Enjoys working with people and enjoys teaching.​
  • Someone who can get about, ideally with a driving license, although this is not compulsory.
  • Flexible – you might be asked to work in another place and asked to teach at short notice.
  • Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced DBS will be actioned for you (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
