Applications are invited for a Cloud Engineer to join the Scientific Computing Department at the Earlham Institute, based in Norwich, UK. The role: The post holder will be tasked with maintaining and updating the CyVerse UK on-site cloud platform, which hosts a number of important web services for the Institute and the bioscience community. They will develop, test, maintain and enable access to the platform for internal and external collaborators. Building on open-source components and existing systems, they will implement and support the CyVerse UK virtualised cloud framework in OpenNebula, integrated with EI’s on-site high capacity data storage resources. The ideal candidate: Candidates should have a degree in a relevant subject or equivalent professional experience in an area such as system administration and/or user support. Certification in Cloud Engineering or system administration would be highly desirable. The ideal candidate should have previous knowledge in Linux/Unix shell scripting, and experience in Linux system administration/support, and communicating with end users and stakeholders. Knowledge of programming languages for web frameworks (e.g. Python, Shiny) and familiarity with containerisation solutions (e.g. Docker, Singularity/Apptainer) is desirable but is not essential to the role. Candidates should have good written and verbal communication skills, and good interpersonal skills with the ability to work well as part of a team. A keen interest in science and technology would be advantageous. Additional information: Salary on appointment will be within the range £34,950 to £37,800 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for a contract of 36 months.
