Job description

We’re looking for a Cloud Platform Engineer with experience of AWS, Terraform and Linux to join our engineering team here at N Brown Group

You’ll be involved in supporting our agile squads with the delivery of our new websites, which could include building the platform for new microservices and their supporting pipelines and working through problem solving to get the answers to challenging issues. You’ll also contribute towards our Platform Chapter work ensuring we are focusing on people/process and Tech within platform to build the best working environment we can utilising the right tech and innovation. 

Please note this role does include on call, on a rota basis. to support our critical platforms 24/7.

What will you do as anCloud Platform Engineerat N Brown?

  • Design, build, and maintain highly available and scalable infrastructure on AWS using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles with Terraform
  • Provide automation, tooling and cloud infrastructure support to squads
  • Provision and manage Linux-based environments, including EC2 instances, containers, and some serverless architectures
  • Collaborate with development teams to implement CI/CD pipelines and automate deployment processes
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, ensuring system stability
  • Undertake the provision of infrastructure-level monitoring and alerting to assist with operational support and troubleshooting for platforms and services
  • Mentoring our junior engineers

What skills and experience will you have?

  • Proven experience as a Platform Engineer or similar role, with a strong understanding of cloud computing principles (AWS)
  • Proficient in Terraform and other Infrastructure as Code tools
  • Extensive experience with Linux operating systems and shell scripting
  • Familiarity with microservices architectures, containerization (Docker), and serverless technologies
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices, tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD), and automation techniques
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g.Grafana, ELK Stack)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Ways of Working

We offer hybrid working which varies across the business depending on the role you’re in. For this role, the expectation would be 1 day every other week. Our Head Office is located in the Northern Quarter in Manchester City Centre. So if you are travelling by train, tram or bus we’re perfectly located, plus we’re surrounded by cool cafes, trendy bars and the best places to eat!

Our working hours are 36.17 per week and our core working hours are between 10am - 4pm. Given we don’t have strict working hours you can find the working pattern that’s right for you.
