Job summary
The Acas DDaT Infrastructure team are looking for an experienced Cloud & Server Analyst to join them to assist in both day-to-day tasks and responsibilities as well as on exciting new projects and developments.
The key purpose of this role is:
- To help support, operate and maintain the Cloud & Server infrastructure platforms that underpin Acas’ core business applications and services, both internal and public facing.
- To work with the DDaT Cyber Security team to ensure that all of Acas’ Cloud & Server products and services conform to the required Government and industry security standards
- To stay informed about the latest developments in Cloud & Server technologies and concepts, recommending those that will help improve the service Acas offers to its staff and the general public
- To assist in maintaining, testing, and improving the Back up and Disaster Recovery process by ensuring that Acas’ Cloud & Server products and services can be reinstated quickly during unexpected major system outages.

Job description
As the Cloud & Server Analyst for DDaT you will have a wide range of accountabilities which will provide you with a varied and interesting day to day experience. Some of these include:
- To support Acas’ Cloud & Server infrastructure, both existing and new, by assisting in their planning, installation, configuration and testing.
- To build and configure servers when needed, ensuring they meet the specified requirements asked for including any specific network security requirements.
- To support the decommissioning process of servers and virtual machines as required, ensuring all processes are followed and the appropriate documentation is created or amended.
- To install, modify or remove Cloud & Server components on request.
- To ensure that all relevant Cloud & Server infrastructure products and services, including installed software and network configurations, are documented. This includes creating, amending and maintaining both existing and new documentation and ensuring it is stored appropriately.
- To provide troubleshooting and technical support services for Cloud & Server incidents, issues, service requests and problems, ensuring all the appropriate processes are adhered to.
- Proactively monitoring the availability and capacity of all Cloud & Server products and services, both servers and applications, ensuring that they appropriately resourced to manage the expected demand and utilisation.
- Providing technical support to strategic 3rd party suppliers and partners for Cloud & Server related incidents, issues, service requests and problems.
- To proactively contribute to Continual Service Improvement, both technical and process improvement, to improve the service Acas provides to its users and the general public.
- To ensure that Acas’ Cloud & Server products and services are patched regularly and consistently to the appropriate schedules.
- To ensure that all security requirements and processes are adhered to, confirming compliance and providing assurance.

As this is mainly a technical role there are certain skills that DDaT are looking for the successful candidate to possess, both essential and desirable to the post. Therefore, you must be able to provide examples and evidence of the following:
Technical
Essential Criteria:
Microsoft Azure
- You must have practical and demonstratable experience working with Windows Servers and Microsoft Azure technologies in your previous roles, including:
- An understanding of the as-a-Service stack, such as IaaS and Paas
- Experience of configuring and managing standard Azure components such as Network Security Groups and Resource Groups
- Knowledge and experience of the Azure backup service so that you can back up and restore servers as required
- Understanding and experience of using SaaS applications from the Azure Marketplace, such as SendGrid, so that you can successfully manage and maintain the environments.
Microsoft Windows Server
- You must have practical and demonstratable experience working with Windows Server technologies in your previous roles, including:
- Configuring, building and managing Windows virtual servers
- Troubleshooting Windows Server problems and issues
- Conducting certificate management activities such as renewals
- Understanding and managing Role Based Access Control (RBAC) for server access
Monitoring and Patching
A key element of this role will be performing scheduled and routine tasks and activities to ensure systems are up and in their optimal state so technical knowledge and experience of using monitoring platforms such as Azure Monitor to resolve issues proactively is essential.
DDaT operates a strict patch management cycle for its servers so experience of routinely testing and carrying out patching on Windows Server is essential.
Desirable criteria:
- Acas are in the process of moving from on-premise Active Directory to Entra ID/DS so experience and knowledge of working with Entra ID and DS would be desirable.
- Knowledge and experience of advanced Azure tools, such as Web Application Firewalls, Site-to-Site VPNs, Azure API management, Purview and Synapse is desirable.
- Server OS Upgrades and Migrations - Previous experience of carrying out Server upgrades, both on new VMs and in-place, is required.
Experience
Essential criteria:
- With many of the Infrastructure team being stretched across multiple deployments it is essential that you can slot into the role quickly by demonstrating your experience and immediately start supporting and contributing towards DDaT’s goals and aspirations.
- DDaT works with multiple technology partners to deliver and manage key services. Therefore, it is essential that the successful candidate can build good working relationships with 3rd party vendors, stakeholders and service providers.
Desirable criteria:
- Any experience on dealing with and resolving major Infrastructure incidents is desirable.
- DDaT workstreams are delivered using established project management methodologies so any previous experience of working on technical projects would be desirable.
- Regularly communicate with a range of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, therefore the ability to communicate with different audiences with different levels of understanding is essential.

Interview Details
If you have successfully passed sift, you will be invited to an interview via MS Teams which is likely to take place the week commencing 19 February 2024. The interview will be a Behaviour and Technical based interview.
