CNC Machinist & Programmer

Full-time permanent

Hull, HU5

£35,000 - £40,000 (dependent on experience) plus

Monday to Friday 7:30am - 4pm

The main purpose of this job will be to use CNC lathe and milling machines to manufacture precision components for the petrochemical and renewables sectors. The post holder will also be responsible for the programming of machines for bespoke jobs, and tooling management for the engineering function.

Main duties

  • Primarily running Haas DS30-Y CNC lathe and Haas UMC750 5-axis mill.
  • Producing parts from raw material.
  • Programming and setting up of CNC machinery for both bespoke and batch jobs.
  • Choosing suitable materials for parts manufacture.
  • Sizing billets.
  • Designing & manufacturing fixtures and tooling as and when required.
  • Collaborating with design department promoting design for manufacture.
  • Collaborate with other members of the team to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Consider any extra stock/fixtures that may be needed for further operations or future projects.
  • Maintenance of the CNC machinery including Deburring, Inspection & Cleaning.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and adhere to all health & safety procedure.

Person Specification

  • Time Served apprenticeship trained in machining, both manual and CNC.
  • Extensive knowledge of CNC Milling (4 or 5 Axis), Turning & Turn/Milling (Haas controls experience beneficial).
  • Experience in manufacturing high tolerance components from various metals in compliance with ISO9001.
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • CAD CAM experience essential.
  • Ability to create CAD drawings (Fusion360 software experience beneficial).
  • Must be competent in the use of measuring equipment such as Micrometres, Bore Gauges, Digital callipers, Slips, Clocks.
  • Good housekeeping and Health & Safety principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong written and verbal communicator.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to jump from job to job, or from machine to machine depending on the needs of the business at the time.
  • Work well under pressure to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Work well independently and within a team.
  • Highly motivated with a passion for machining.
