Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:40 am - 3:30 pm
Responsible to: Head Teacher, AHT SENDCo, Assistant SENDCo
Liaises with: Class teachers, HOFs, AHT SENDCo
Main Purpose of the Job: The Co-Educator is a crucial member of a team responsible for the education and care of children at our School. They contribute to the teaching and learning program in line with the school's ethos, aims, and objectives. The Co-Educator supports the school in elevating pupil aspirations, challenging student learning, and engaging pupils in their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support for Pupils:
- Provide individual attention, reassurance, and help for pupils as identified in Learning Passports.
- Support pupil(s) access to the curriculum, their learning, and progress towards specific individual targets.
- Act as an escort on and off school premises for visits or off-site educational provision.
- Support pupils in working independently, delivering 1-to-1 or small group programs for Literacy, Numeracy, SPAG, handwriting, and speech and language.
- Provide information, advice, and direction to pupils about their behavior within the school's framework.
- Assist pupil(s) access to the curriculum by differentiating instructions and resources.
- Prepare materials specified by the teacher and help pupils select equipment and materials.
- Support the maintenance of student records and provide information to the teacher/AHT SENDCo.
- Correct pupil behavior, supporting the teacher in maintaining order and discipline.
- Attend internal meetings, including Faculty meetings.
- Act as a reader or amanuensis during tests and examinations.
- Assist in the administration of appropriate assessments as directed by the AHT SENDCo.
- Share information and expertise to benefit team members.
- Provide information to support student progress, including reports, Learning Passports, and annual reviews.
- Supervise targeted pupils during break or lunchtime as directed by the AHT SENDCo.
- Support curriculum plans and learning programs designed by teachers.
- Help pupils with the use of ICT and appropriate curriculum software.
- Monitor pupils' responses to learning activities and inform the teacher of difficulties.
- Use appropriate strategies for challenging and motivating students to learn.
- Relevant experience in an educational setting.
- Understanding of special educational needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
