Coating Specialist

AWE have an exciting opportunity for a Coating Specialist to join the Trials, Evaluation, Test and Development sub-function, supporting the delivery of their programme. The role will act as the lead in polymer and metallic coatings, working with technicians to develop and deliver coating techniques to specialist substrates. This position might suit a Chemist or Chemical Engineer who is interested in this area.

Location: Reading

Salary: £37,860 - £70,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

The Role?

The Target Fabrication Team are looking for an experienced Coatings Specialist to be responsible for delivery of an in-house coating capability. The successful candidate will be expected to develop techniques for the use of polymer and metallic coatings to meet customer requirements. This role will direct the work of technicians, aiding in their training and mentoring. The role works alongside machining, assembly and characterisation capabilities to provide an all-round service to the customer.

Responsibilities will include:

• Perform research and development activities to establish in-house coating capabilities.
• Develop standard operating procedures for routine coating procedures.
• Investigate methods to meet novel customer requirements.
• Identify and facilitate improved working practices to aid delivery.
• Maintain all chemical and manufacturing processes in line with statutory guidelines.

Your key skills should include but not be limited to:

• Proven experience as a Coating Specialist or a similar role within the coatings industry
• Knowledge of different coating types, applications, and associated equipment
• Ideally candidates will have a degree in a STEM discipline with experience in either polymer or metal coatings - however on the job experience will be considered in place of this.
