Commercial Optimisation Manager
The Role:
As part of the M&S - ORL relationship reset we have an ambitious agenda of tapping into opportunities to: create joint value, grow market share, create a better servicing omnichannel, and reduce costs, all underpinned by building a shared culture.
In the last year, we have been focusing on improving jointly run processes as well as listing more of the M&S addressable range to drive sales. We have also run two performance optimisation sprints on the salads and chicken categories which yielded some great results, however, we are looking to move to a more sustainable model going forward with two commercial counterparts in place (one at ORL, one at M&S) that can own and drive performance.
You would be joining the M&S Partnership team to maximise the performance of the M&S proposition on Ocado. This newly created role will help ensure we are maximising return on M&S media spend by focusing on priority areas of underperformance and jointly agreed trade priorities.
You will work closely with M&S and the Buying team to align priorities and agree on action plans to optimise the performance of the existing M&S ranges, as well as ensure major transformations and campaigns land as strongly as possible.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the M&S media budget is spent in an optimal way to maximise ROI
  • Be the M&S champion inside ORL
  • Understand M&S performance and work with M&S to identify priority areas for deep dive analysis and Commercial Optimisation action planning
  • Align with M&S on the proposed main priorities/focus areas for optimisation and the calendar for execution
  • Put together a media plan/calendar building on priority areas identified & the plan of action to address these
  • Collaborate with M&S to align trade & campaign plans as much as possible
  • Ensure ORL buyers priorities are reflected in the plans and plans are signed off by ORL leadership
  • Support M&S with building internal capabilities to understand performance and trading on Ocado


The ideal candidate:

  • Commercial: Have a strong understanding of how to drive performance on site, ideally with experience utilising the range tools and levers available (as such ORL buying experience would be highly valued)
  • Results-oriented: Able to consistently deliver against KPIs within an evolving landscape.
  • Collaborative: Building relationships is one of your strengths. Whether it’s within your team, with your stakeholders, or with the wider community, you realise the importance of working together.
  • Analytical: Able to interpret data and identify key drivers for performance
  • Customer-focused: Putting your customers at the heart of everything you do
