Job description

At Hearst UK, there’s always more to the story. Join us as our Commissioning Editor to start the next chapter in your career. This role is for 4 days per week.

We’re the UK’s leading premium publisher, and the people behind iconic media brands such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Country Living. We’ve created a working environment that encourages everyone to pull together. We never stop looking for brave new ideas. We’ll always try to develop and improve, we trust each other to do our best, and we have fun as we build on our heritage to make history.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

You will be responsible for writing, editing and commissioning features and news for all ELLE platforms, from daily news to larger features and exclusives. Working with the wider team to forward-plan and commission content for digital op-eds, ELLE Collective, long-read digital features, and digital collections. We’re looking for someone with a flair for storytelling and identifying trends and topics to cover - and the best way in which to write and engage with our audience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Writing, editing and commissioning features and news for all ELLE platforms, from daily news hits to larger features and exclusives. Work with the wider team to forward-plan and commission content for digital op-eds, ELLE Collective, long-read digital features, and digital collections (Pride Month, Fashion Month, Black History Month).
  • Representing ELLE within the industry, from attending events, reporting on shows to contributing to ALL ELLE platforms.
  • Build a bank of thought-leading voices and writers to commission to ensure ELLE’s content continues to push boundaries.
  • Contributing to the social, digital and video strategy for ELLE, whether ideating on projects, helping to propose or secure talent (in conjunction with our Talent Hub).
  • Produce traffic reports for features using Analytical tools (eg GA4, Looker).
  • Regularly meeting with brands and PRs and feeding back to the team to build relationships, secure editorial exclusives and ensure ELLE remains at the forefront of the conversation.
  • Understanding and building commercial relationships, working with the revenue teams on special projects whenever necessary.

ABOUT YOU

  • Proven experience in an editorial role, writing copy, commissioning and editing.
  • A flair for storytelling and identifying trends and topics to cover - and the best way in which to write and engage with our audience.
  • Highly skilled at building stories and editing at speed within a CMS.
  • An understanding of the importance of SEO in journalism, and how to use it effectively in everything from body copy to headlines.
  • Experience of working closely with business teams to identify and collaborate on revenue-generating projects, whether commercial or consumer
  • A comprehensive contacts book, from authors, journalists, Hollywood PRs to fashion designers
