About the role
Balfour Beatty Major Projects team have a fantastic opportunity for a Commissioning Permit Engineer to work at the Box Encapsulation Plant (BEP), Sellafield, Seascale.
The Box Encapsulation Plant project is one of the most important construction projects at the Sellafield Site, the plant will play a vital role in Sellafield’s 100-year clean-up programme by taking nuclear waste recovered from the sites original
wasteplants and encasing it in concrete so it can be stored in a modern building. The plant is primarily designed to deal with waste from the Magnox Swarf Storage Silo, one of four legacy waste plants prioritised for clean-up by Sellafield Ltd’s
owner, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). Alongside that work, the plant will also receive certain wastes from the other three legacy waste stores, the First Generation Magnox Storage Pond, the Pile Fuel Storage Pond, and Pile Fuel Cladding Silo.
The BEP Joint Venture project will safely design and deliver a Plant and the works in accordance with the requirements of the contract to enable conditioning ofwastes from the various donor plants, carried out in line with the Employer’s needs
and to the satisfaction of stakeholders in the Box Encapsulation Project (BEP).
What you'll be doing
As Commissioning Permit Engineer , you will have the following accountabilities:
Prepare, issue and close safe systems of work
Ensure all permit office activities are carried out in accordance with all site licence, Environmental, regulatory and industry requirements, including HSG250 and HSG253
Advise and support the Permit Office Manager in confirming plant and equipment can be safely energised to carry out meaningful testing
Ensure all Permit Office test equipment is calibrated and certified
Carry out all energisation and isolation activities in a safe, and timely manner through all stages of commissioning
Who we're looking for
You will have the following:
Appropriate technical qualification (C&;G, ONC, HNC) in an engineering
discipline
Previous experience as a Permit Engineer in the commissioning of
nuclear or similar plants.
The ability to obtain BC is essential
