Job description

The Role

We are looking for fixed term Maternity Cover post for our Communities Engagement Ranger role to help us run our successful school visits and community engagement programmes.

You’ll be joining a small, friendly, outdoor learning team, based at our Londgendale Environment Centre, near Glossop.

Each year we deliver education experiences to over 5000 young people, as well as running community events, wellbeing and conservation sessions. You’ll chiefly be responsible for helping deliver school sessions to KS1 - 4 (with a particular focus on KS2 & 4) connecting young people with the beautiful landscapes of the Dark Peak. Example sessions include River Studies, GCSE Geography fieldwork, Forest School, and Rocks & Soils. (more details can be found on our website).

Our sessions can run on all days of the week, so being flexible on your working patterns is helpful (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are generally our busiest days). Your work will largely be based at Longdendale Environmental Centre, but there may occasionally be other sessions, meetings or training sessions at other locations around the National Park.

About You

You will need to be able to show a passion for the outdoors and the special qualities of the Peak District National Park, and translate this into outstanding learning experiences for the young people you work with.

You’ll need to be flexible, independent, and a great communicator. You also need to be passionate about life-long learning, be curious about the national world, and have a sense of fun!

Experience of working with young people, especially in the outdoors, is essential; previous work with KS2 and/or KS4 would be particularly beneficial.

You’ll need to be available from March until September.

About Us

The Peak District National Park was the first of Britain’s 15 national parks and is still enjoyed by millions, looking for both adventure and a breathing space to escape. It is also the most accessible due its proximity to four major cities of the UK and its 38,000 residents. We recognise the importance of our national park and our job is to speak up and care for the Peak District National Park for all to enjoy forever.
