Job description

St Helena Island, South Atlantic

2 years FTC available immediately
£35k-£38k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, plus International Supplement

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

Are you passionate and caring? Do you think creatively, enjoy nurturing others and can develop ideas? As a key team member you will work closely with the Adult Services Team Manager to lead social work practice with vulnerable adults living in residential care. A distinct focus is required to work towards UK standards around regulated activities.

You will introduce and develop operational systems, procedures, care protocols and social care practices for residential, day and respite services. Care provisions are based on individual ‘needs led’ assessment, planned delivery of care, co-operative key-working and regular reviews.

As you contribute to and develop the safeguarding guidelines, maintaining and improving living conditions at the Community Care Centre, you will ensure all residents have individual care plans in line with their needs and wishes, safely actioned and reviewed. In partnership with Adult Social care you will focus on assessed needs, plans and reviews with residents, staff, allied professionals and community organisations. Alongside HR you will be responsible for identifying training needs and recruitment, keeping up-to-date with evidence based care practices.

You must ensure that the service has suitable accommodation, equipment, staffing ratios, trained staff, person centred care, healthy and nutritious food, meaningful activities and opportunities for the individual. You will form part of an on call rota and must therefore be available outside working hours, which may include shifts and may also be required to work evenings, weekends and occasional public holidays.

Qualified to Degree level or equivalent in social work and/or nursing, you have current registration with the HCPC or equivalent body, demonstrating CPD and maintained practice at this level. With relevant skills, knowledge and practical experience in leadership at this level, a significant related work history is essential, plus the ability to work with partner agencies using strong negotiation and people management skills.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.  As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  • An International Supplement of at least £15,800 per annum, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at sthelenapublicservicejobs.sh
  • Relocation Allowances, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at sthelenapublicservicejobs.sh
  • Annual Pension Contribution of 7.5% of salary
  • Annual Leave of 30 days per annum plus Public Holidays
