Job description

The North Pennines National Landscape team is recruiting a Community Engagement Officer until 31 March 2028 to help deliver the Access to Eden project. We are seeking an experienced, delivery focussed individual who can work well with stakeholders and communities, and who is able to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.

Access to Eden is a £2m+ project supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund that will improve access through opportunity and conservation in the glorious landscape of the River Eden, East Cumbria, including part of the North Pennines National Landscape. The project aims to break down the physical, social and cultural barriers that prevent people from accessing the natural heritage of the River Eden landscape and build the bridges needed to give them the confidence to enjoy our blue and green spaces. With 13 organisations signed up as part of our partnership, together we will break down barriers and build bridges for people AND nature in the Eden Valley.

The Community Engagement Officer will work with the many small communities and community organisations which exist in the western part of the North Pennines National Landscape and surrounding areas between Brampton and Kirkby Steven. The post holder will work with these groups to facilitate new and meaningful relationships between them, partners, and groups of people who are not currently accessing the countryside for a variety of reasons. Through these new relationships longer term engagement between groups and partners will be developed. This work will build on the learning and connections made in previous work.

The Access to Eden project is led by, the Eden Rivers Trust. The North Pennines National Landscape team (hosted by Durham County Council) are partners in the project and committed to delivering work which will establish long-lasting benefits.

Working Pattern: Part time (22.5 hours per week)

Salary: Grade 10 £35,745 to £39,186 per annum (pro rata)

Employment Location: Eden Rivers Trust office, Penrith

Closing date for applications is Tuesday 9 July 2024. Interviews are scheduled to be held on Friday 19 July 2024.

We encourage you to contact Simon Wilson, Programme Manager – Business & Engagement via email at simon@northpennines.org.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role.
