Job description

Britten Pears Arts (BPA) is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based in Suffolk. It emerged from the determination of composer Benjamin Britten and his partner, singer Peter Pears, to ensure that everyone could enjoy and experience music. Britten Pears Arts aims to continue their legacy to develop talent and engage with communities.

Much of our wide-ranging work is only possible with the support of our large pool of volunteers who currently volunteer in a very broad range of areas including ushering and front of house duties for concerts and events, archive work, gardening, stewarding and guiding tours at The Red House.

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for approximately 150 volunteers. A significant part of this role is keeping volunteers informed and engaged through clear and responsive communication. Another important objective is to find ways of attracting new volunteers who reflect the diversity of our work, audiences and visitors. This will involve working with department heads to identify potential volunteering opportunities. The role-holder will also be responsible for implementing volunteer policies and ensuring that all volunteer training and documentation is up-to-date. This is likely to include the actual delivery of some training, such as induction, as well as practical support for department heads in their planning and deployment of volunteers.

In particular we are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of working with volunteers and planning rota’s.
  • Understands the needs of both the organisation and the volunteers
  • Has clear and articulate communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Is a confident user of IT (Microsoft – Outlook, Word, Excel and Sharepoint)
  • Combines efficient admin and organizational skills with a willingness to be “hands-on” alongside volunteers when needed.
  • Is able to additional hours to support peak periods eg: for the Aldeburgh Festival and Summer at Snape Programme.

We are an equal opportunities employer and believe that diversity strengthens and enriches us. We positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates of all ages and from all backgrounds, in particular from ethnic minority groups and disabled candidates who are currently under-represented at Britten Pears Arts.

This role is primarily based at Snape Maltings with some time to be spent at The Red House, Aldeburgh.
