About the role

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and passionate individual to join the Crawley Play Service team. The successful candidate will help deliver a high-quality programme of outreach and detached work across Crawley, which supports the achievement of better outcomes for children, young people and families helping them to thrive and reach their full potential.

You will support the Senior Community Playworker with the planning and delivery of a successful play streets model across the town to identified areas with high numbers of children and young people.

In addition, you will support in the delivery of a stimulating and creative outreach programme in fixed locations across Crawley, such as playing fields, unsupervised play areas, schools, neighbourhood hotspot areas and youth clubs.

You will be part of the team that delivers targeted outreach across Crawley which responds to incidents and issues quickly and creatively. This will provide diversion and safety for children and young people encouraging them to make positive life choices.

You will work in partnership with key partners and organisations and have the confidence and initiative to engage with parents, children and young people in a friendly and professional manner to help build strong positive relationships in the community. You will be able to work proactively as part of a team and on your own initiative.

You will need to have experience of working with children and young people providing play/youth opportunities through outreach, in different settings and locations within the community.

Additional information

This 16 hours per week role is broken down into:

  • term time: Monday to Thursday 3pm to 7pm
  • school holidays: Wednesday and Thursday, core hours will be between 10.30am to 7pm to meet the needs of children and their families

On occasion you may be expected to work weekend days for which a 14 per cent enhancement will be paid in line with the Community Services Local Pay Agreement. You will also receive TOIL (time off in lieu) to be taken within the week hours, as any weekend hours worked will be part of your normal working week.

A full current UK driving licence will be a requirement of the role.

Satisfactory clearance of an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) with a barred list will be a condition of your employment.
