This is an exciting opportunity to join the Exhibitions, Access & Learning Team to take a lead to plan, develop & deliver innovative creative content for current & retired Postal Workers, inspired by the collection & museum-wide seasons of activity. The role will involve delivering three key strands of work, made possible by Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation. You will work alongside another Community Programmes Producer who will engage other under-represented groups & lead a creative consultation project with local communities.
From year 1, you will plan & deliver new & existing programmes, such as the Royal Mail Staff Open Days. Activity will be designed to facilitate affordable access to high-quality learning experiences for London-based retired & currently employed Postal Workers. Through building on established partnerships and connecting with staff at the nearby Mount Pleasant Mail Centre, your approach will be shaped by the target audience & the creative consultation project.
In years 2 & 3, you will work with museum colleagues to plan, develop & deliver short-term pilot projects with Postal Workers in Wolverhampton & Swindon. These areas have links to postal history and identified as Priority Places by Arts Council England. You will test approaches to outreach engagement to widen access to our offer and to help us better represent the national story of the postal service. This work may inform short-term outreach activity at other locations around the UK beyond year 3.
Finally, you will work with teams across the museum to identify & deliver opportunities where collaborative practice can inform & enhance core work, including our collection, public programme, exhibitions and digital content. You will start by supporting a project to collect the stories of people connected to the Post Office Underground Railway (Mail Rail) to better represent their experiences in the collection & to enrich an upcoming refresh of museum content.
