Location: Durham University International Study Centre

Contract Type: Variable Hours, Permanent

Salary: up to £34.49 per hour (DOE)

Are you passionate about computing and eager to share your expertise with others? We are currently seeking a talented and dedicated Computer Science Tutor to join our team. As a Computer Science Tutor, you will have the opportunity to inspire and guide students in their exploration of the dynamic world of technology and Computer Science.

You will work with colleagues across the Centre to ensure the effective delivery of teaching programmes on the Computing, Engineering and Science pathway, in line with our teaching, learning and assessment strategy, broader scholarship and aims for an outstanding student experience. You will also contribute directly to student support and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices across the Centre. As a tutor, you will contribute to the design, development and production of teaching and learning materials, across a range of programmes at various RQF levels.

The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective modules at International Foundation Year (Pre Undergraduate, level 3) and Pre-Masters (post-graduate, level 6), in the Centre and via online teaching. We are looking for candidates with a range of experience in delivering Computer Science, Programming and Data Science.

Durham University International Study Centre programmes cover the following subject areas:

  • Foundation: Computer Science and Programming
  • Pre-Masters: Data Science

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Delivering modules (online and face-to-face) to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the development of modules.
  • Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
  • Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre s virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
  • Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process.
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance.
  • Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students.
  • Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
  • Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
  • Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
  • Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to the subject.

ABOUT YOU

  • A recognised teaching qualification (Desirable)
  • A Master s degree or equivalent in a related subject area (Essential)
  • Teaching experience delivering Computer Science programmes within a Further Education or Higher Education context
  • Experience working with international students online and face-to-face (Desirable)
  • Confident practitioner online (e.g. use of Teams/Zoom) and face to face
  • Able to master a wide range of online teaching software
  • Able to code in Python, C and Matlab
