About the Department

Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.

What is the Role?

We are currently recruiting for a Condition Monitoring Engineer into our Asset Management Team; the key responsibilities are:

- Involvement in selecting assets to be monitored, along with suitable Condition Monitoring means. Overseeing and issue resolution of Condition Monitoring installation, data retrieval and data interpretation.

- Collaboration with other SSEN Teams or externals to identify parameters that may be forewarning of asset wellbeing, then investigation of suitable tools, devices, techniques, which may involve small scale trials with the aim of introducing new Condition Monitoring applications.

- Development of documentation that supports Condition Monitoring, ranging from function specifications, to polices, process optimisation with the aim being to maximise the benefits of Condition Monitoring.

- Utilize Condition Monitoring to assess, understand and predict the performance, integrity and condition of assets and enable timely interventions to maintain overall network reliability.

- You will deliver value and contribute to the overall operational excellence of the business. This will also require the communication of results to various stakeholders.

- Although office-based, you will make frequent site visits and enjoy immense variety in your role that few other companies could offer due to our unique portfolio of assets.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- You should have a keen interest in Condition Monitoring and hands-on experience with monitoring tools, their installation, operation & maintenance in one or more Transmission specific assets (Substation Plant; Overhead Lines; Underground Cables).

- Ideally educated to degree level in a relevant Engineering subject.

- Have a well-grounded understanding of the electrical network, along with the design and operational standards of key assets.

- The ideal candidate will have significant experience relating to asset Condition Monitoring or integrity assessments, management of risk and performance of ageing structures.

- Display good communication and interpersonal skills and possess an innovative mind set, with a flexible approach.

- Furthermore, you'll have the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment.
