Consultant Colorectal Surgeon

To be responsible for ensuring a commitment in providing a high quality colorectal service to patients by continual development of practice in the light of research evidence and by audit against Clinical standards. To provide a comprehensive outpatient service from clinics. To support teaching and training of junior medical staff, medical students and Postgraduate Medical Education in general. The Trust will strongly Support and allow time for CPD for the Successful candidate. To support and encourage audit and research and develop close links with academic initiatives. To actively participate in CME and personal development programmes. To support the on-going development of services for General Surgery, in particular Inflammatory Bowel Disease liaising with community and primary care services. To participate in the provision of elective and emergency work of the general surgical service. To provide, with the other Consultant Surgeons, the acute general surgical service at Walsall Manor Hospital operating a system of mutual out of hours cover to include the provision of prospective cover for the annual and study leave of colleagues. To be available to provide advice to GPs by telephone whilst working as the on call Consultant. Any research carried out by the post holder will be conducted in accordance with available resources and guidelines laid down by the Local Research Ethics Committee. The post holder will also be involved in regular clinical audit. To liaise with medical staff in other specialities and participate in the regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities of the hospital. To partake in a 1:9 on-call rota for General Surgery.
