Consultant Community Paediatrician & MedicalAdvisor for Adoption and Fostering
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team of dynamic and experienced Community Paediatricians who provide a full range of Community Paediatric services, in an active and progressive department, which has close links with the wider Children’s Community health teams, Local Authority, tertiary services, primary care and voluntary sector. Lewisham Community Children Services were awarded an outstanding status following CQC inspection in 2017. Job share applicants are welcome to apply.
Lewisham specialist community child health services are based at Kaleidoscope, a purpose-built centre for children and young people, which houses multiagency teams including the Community Paediatricians, Community Children’s nurses, School Health Service Therapists, CAMHS, Social Care Children with Complex Needs, Special Educational Needs, Educational Psychology and Sensory teams. Multidisciplinary and multiagency team working is an essential component to our services’ success. There is very excellent joint working across Acute and Community Paediatric services and CAMHS, and between health and other agencies. The community teams also undertake outreach clinics at Special schools.
The Community Paediatric team consists of 7 Consultant Community Paediatricians, 2 Associate Specialists, 2 Specialty Doctors, Clinical Nurse Specialist, 3 specialty trainees (2 Grid trainees and one level 2 trainee).
Working in all aspects of Community Paediatrics, including neurodevelopmental assessments, special school medicals and communication clinics. The post holder will also be the Medical Advisor for Adoption and Fostering and focuses on Looked After Children. They will be an advocate for children for whom a care plan is adoption.
Adoption panels are shared with other boroughs through Adoption South London. Approximately 20 children per annum from Lewisham borough have had adoption decisions over recent years, though more are considered for Adoption.
The post holder will contribute to the daytime child protection rota, but there is no expectation to contribute to Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA) medicals.
There is no overnight commitment or out -of -hours on- call commitment in this post.
