Job description

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic colleague to join the General Surgery team at South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have a special interest in Colorectal Surgery with a focus on pelvic floor surgery and will be afforded the opportunity to develop the service.
The successful candidate will participate in the General Surgery on call rota and their elective work will focus on colorectal and pelvic floor surgery. They will also be expected to participate in training Specialist Registrars on rotation from HEE and trust grade registrars.
The on-call frequency is currently 1 in 8 (this will change to 1 in 10 from April 2024) and this is supported by a non-resident registrar as well as other junior doctors and ACPs.
With our central location and great transport links we are closer than you might think. We are located in the heart of England with easy access to the motorway network and a good railway service. Warwickshire is accessible from many nearby cities including Birmingham, Leicester, Northampton, Oxford and Worcestershire.
Surrounded by a collection of picturesque towns and villages, there is always a lot to see and do across the County. Numerous sport and leisure venues, theatres, parks and great shopping facilities make Warwickshire an idyllic place to work and live.
As well as enjoying where you work, we want all our staff to lead happy and healthy lives. That’s why we offer many benefits to support this, such as flexible working opportunities, Childcare Vouchers, and onsite subsidised restaurant at our hospitals in Warwick and Leamington Spa, as well as a number of recognition awards.
The post holder would join 6 other consultants with a colorectal interest (plus 2 retired/ returned colleagues) and would expand the range of services offered locally. These currently include laparoscopic and robotic resections for cancer and IBD, as well as advanced lower GI endoscopy including screening, stenting and advanced polypectomy. We are supported in this work by teams of nurse specialists, who currently specialise in IBD, colorectal cancer and stoma care. The successful candidate will be expected to perform lower GI endoscopy and contribute to the general surgery workload alongside their subspecialist work. We would welcome applications from candidates with experience or willing to train in General Surgery of Childhood.
