Consultant inPublic Health / Public Health Medicine Public Health Scotland is a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland. Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 with the formal status of a National Special Health Board employing around 1100 people, and with an annual budget of around £60 million. Public Health Scotland provides authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland. It leads the national response to unforeseen health emergencies and contributes to national and local government policy through its provision of robust data and intelligence. We are looking for a Consultant inPublic Health / Public Health Medicine to provide national Public Health leadership in relation to the specific area of equity to enable policy and strategy creation for the delivery of key Public Health goals. Specifically, the postholder will provide national Public Health leadership around human rights, inclusive health, equity, discrimination and stigma. In addition, the candidate will provide clinical governance support and leadership for PHS. You will be joining teams embedded within the NHS, but working closely with Scottish Government, Community Planning Partnerships, Local Authorities, Integrated Health and Social Care Partnerships, third sector, resilience partnerships and others. You will be focussed on transforming Scotland’s Public Health system, through effective working relationships with stakeholders such as NHS Scotland, Scottish Government and partner organisations. The post holder must be registered on the Specialist Register of the General Medical/Dental Council in Public Health or on the UK Public Health (Specialist) Register with substantive experience of working in the equity field and take on this national leadership position. The post will report to the PHS Head of Clinical, Public Health Intelligence & Research. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency. Work Pattern - Monday to Sunday, 40 hours (M&D) or 37.There are no requirements for on-call, however, during times of Public Health emergency, or other urgent business need you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.
