We have an excellent full-time opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatristto join us at Cygnet Hospital Churchill.
This role will be based on our 17 bedded Male Acute service. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.
Cygnet Hospital Churchill, with a Good CQC overall rating and located in South / Central London, is a 57 bed inpatient mental health hospital for men. Cygnet Churchill has four wards including an emergency acute admissions service (Juniper Ward) and three high dependency inpatient rehabilitation services (Elm Court, Maple Court and Mulberry Court).
In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment - fully supported by two Specialty Doctors and first-class multidisciplinary team.
The applicant is also invited to consider taking on the role of Deputy Medical Director at the Churchill site. This represents a good opportunity to progress to Medical Director level through our management schemes.

Your role responsibilities...
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT)
  • Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT
  • Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
  • Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment
  • Participate in ward rounds & clinical audits
  • Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance
  • Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers' hearings & attend hearings
  • Participate in the 1 in 3 Second telephone on-call rota

We are looking for someone who is...
  • Fully GMC Registered on the Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
  • Approved Clinician Status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Experienced & knowledgeable in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Knowledgeable of current issues in General Adult Psychiatry and the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
  • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
  • Committed to continued professional development
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes
  • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent

Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
