The GE Aerospace Consulting Engineer - Structures leads projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business and is recognized expert in the field of propulsion system structures. In this role you will be responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, and contribute to the overall business strategy. This Consulting Engineer will support the RISE Open Fan Engine program team.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Serve as a recognized technical expert in propulsion structures and provide consultation to management, all design organizations, and supplier organizations
- Remain cognizant of state-of-the-art in area of expertise
- Provide technical leadership in design reviews, task force, industrial committees, and design boards as necessary
- Work closely with the Chief Consulting Engineer in area of expertise
- Enhance technical excellence in assigned design organizations
- Identify and recommend where improvements in knowledge of structures are needed or where technical training is needed
- Establish a total quality management strategy to assure early involvement on manufacturing process / producibility matters
- Provide leadership to help focus and integrate new technology smoothly into production
- Suggest areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches / programs to pursue
- Lead / support study teams to address top problems within the organization or projects in focused technical areas
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college/university
- At least 8 years of post-Bachelor's experience in engineering or closely related discipline
Desired Characteristics:
- Demonstrated leadership in the field of propulsion system structures
- 10 or more years of experience in Engineering
- Experience with Mechanical Structures
- Aerospace Industry experience
- Ability to define and execute projects, advance the state of the art, lead teams, solve problems, mentor engineers, define and execute strategy
- Collaborative style, valuing and enhancing diversity of teams
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Leadership to pursue correct engineering process in adverse conditions
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
