Job description

How you'll make a difference

As a Content Designer, you will write content that helps our users to understand and access council services. You will make a difference by ensuring that we deliver clear, accessible, and accurate content to our staff, residents, businesses, and other stakeholders.

What will you be doing?

  • Given the nature of this role, you will work closely with internal stakeholders, including service leads and subject matter experts, to design content that meets user needs and satisfies business and statutory requirements, using evidence to inform your decisions
  • It will be your responsibility to write clear and accessible content, ensuring this is shown to a user in the right place and in the best format
  • You will help shape our approach to content across the organisation, drawing on your thorough understanding of best practice.
  • You will support managing the organisation and improvement of the council’s website, microsites and intranet.
  • Within the service you will adopt and advocate the council’s user-focused approach to content design, working closely with internal clients to design content that meets user needs and satisfies statutory requirements
  • You will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating performance levels - this may include social media and web analytics, digital campaigns, and user research activity such as surveys, interviews, focus groups and usability testing
  • You will provide specialist information and advice to all council departments, as well as senior management, councillors, and external stakeholders, ensuring that a consistent approach is taken to digital activity, leading projects and represent the team on wider organisational project boards
  • You will provide support, advice and guidance whilst ensuring the service complies with all relevant regulations, codes of practices, policies, and procedures

What we need from you

  • You will have experience of writing content for large, high profile, public-facing websites
  • You will have experience of user-centric approaches to content design, with the ability to write user stories and design content to satisfy acceptance criteria
  • You will have a thorough understanding of content design best practice and be able to draw on relevant resources and networks in support of your work and professional development
  • For this role it is essential that you have excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into plain English and follow writing style guidelines
