Job Title: Contracts Engineer

Location: Manchester

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 + Car Allowence & Additional Benefits

Job Purpose: Responsible for delivering projects and small works associated with engineering services, encompassing engineering analysis, construction engineering design, business development, procurement, cost control, estimating, pricing variations, forecasting end-of-life contract costs and sales values, ensuring order and SES numbers, preparation of invoices, and site management.

Aims and Objectives:

• Ensure safe execution of projects and small works.
• Develop effective relationships with team members and clients to secure and win new work.
• Foster repeat business by collaborating with clients.
• Provide technical engineering expertise to support successful project execution.
• Ensure Project Engineering services adhere to plan, program, and budget.
• Maintain Project Engineering and technical standards.
• Provide timely management reports.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Manage and control site-based teams, ensuring compliance with company policies.
• Oversee Health & Safety, Finance, Environmental Policy, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and Engineering Standards.
• Understand contract conditions, engineering standards, and specifications.
• Produce/review risk assessments and method statements for Health and Safety compliance.
• Sequence and program works, establish work scope, specifications, and cost control.
• Compare suppliers and subcontractors for quality and cost against procurement schedules.
• Prepare work programs, ensuring activities align with available resources and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Establish procurement schedules and specifications.
• Procure, coordinate, and monitor all site activities.
• Undertake site visits, attend progress meetings, and provide input for successful project execution.
• Provide tendering facilities for project works and variations.
• Collaborate with the commercial team to manage variations and changes to the scope of work.
• Understand financial plans/budgets, monitor cost, spend, value, and recovery for all works.
• Manage and set firm financial targets, reporting financial status to General, Commercial, and Operations Managers.
• Develop customer relationships for new opportunities.

Allied Duties:

• Conduct staff appraisals and set training and development programs.
• Interact with HR team on investigations and disciplinary meetings.

Working Relationships:Internal: Interface with various internal teams including Operations & Commercial Manager, Contracts Engineers, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Surveyors, Designers, Buyers, Estimators, Safety Health & Environmental (HSE) Department, HR, Shared services teams, Central Engineering Design Department (CEDD), Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) Department, and Site Employees. External: Interface with Clients, Suppliers, Sub-contractors.

Person Specification:

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

Essential:

• Proven track record in the Electrical Contracting Industry, managing safety, finance, and quality.
• City and Guilds Electrical/Instrumentation Installation and Safety qualifications.
• Experience on contracts with E&I value £1k to £1M.
• Strong HSEQ management awareness.
• Financial awareness, including monitoring, control, and forecasting.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to complete estimates and produce reports.
• Ability to sequence and program works, utilizing different planning techniques.
• Willingness to travel and work on-site.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to deliver presentations.

Desirable:

• Basic skills in AutoCAD and ability to read/interpret drawings.
• Flexibility in approach to client requirements.

• Ability to provide effective management skills to site-based teams.
• Excellent customer service skills, building and maintaining effective working relationships.
