We are now recruiting for a C&I Engineer to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.
What we re looking for
As the C&I Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across the lifecycle of C&I Systems for the SMR nuclear power plant. This covers the delivery of the complete design of the Control and Instrumentation systems, spanning system architecture, sub-system design and equipment specification and design / selection to realise the final verified design of the power station. You will do this by working closely with the engineering teams from across the power station and applying a structured systems engineering approach to design.
• Working with Process Engineers to translate high level requirements into a specification for Control and Instrumentation (C&I) systems.
• Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components and systems to facilitate effective system design.
• Assess and substantiate that the design specification meets the requirements.
• Ensuring compliance against international standards in particular, IEC 61513, IEC61226 and IEC61508.
• Produce Validation Plans and define test plans demonstrate that the C&I system requirements have been satisfied.
• Support to planning and implementation of policies and procedures related to the life cycle of C&I systems.
• Ensure that optimum solutions are provided for the RR SMR Nuclear Power Plant by supporting the procurement, operations, and maintenance aspects of the equipment.
• Contribute to the production of safety cases and provide support in liaising with regulators and independent nuclear safety assessors.
As we strive to find the best fit for this position, we are seeking individuals with a minimum level of experience, training, and qualification. But we ll let you in on a secret: there s no such thing as the perfect candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.
Key selection criteria for this role are:
Comprehensive C&I System Design Proficiency
Knowledge and experience in the systematic design lifecycle of a C&I system including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of safety or process critical C&I systems. This together with a good understanding of the principles of designing systems to be functionally resilient to faults (such as redundancy and diversity) would be beneficial.
Adherence to Industry Standards
Knowledge and experience of relevant industry standards for systems important to safety (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 61226, IEC 61513).
Application of Advanced System Methodologies
Knowledge and experience of applying systems engineering methodologies including Model Based Systems Engineering to C&I systems.
Effective Stakeholder Communication
Experience in taking information, understanding, and presenting it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications to the appropriate stakeholders.
Technical Oversight Proficiency
The ability to provide technical oversight of the work carried out by supply chain partners i.e., discharging the intelligent customer role.
Training & Qualification Requirements
• Hold a degree level qualification in one or more of the engineering disciplines of electrical, electronics, instrumentation, control systems, mechatronics, physics or computer science.
• Applicants without a degree who can nevertheless demonstrate suitable experience may also be considered.
Pay and Benefits
We anticipate paying a salary of between £40,000 - £62,000 (DOE)
There is also a performance related bonus of up to 12.5%, and an attractive pension scheme with 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. You will also receive a flexible benefits allowance of £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package to suit your needs.
