Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is located 27km off the coast of Suffolk and generates 353MW, the Wind Farm represents an investment of around £1.5 billion. It is estimated that the average annual generation expected at the site will be equivalent to the approximate domestic needs of more than 380,000 average UK households. The 353MW Galloper Wind Farm is owned by RWE Renewables, Siemens Financial Services, Equitix, Spring Infrastructure and ESB. The project is operated from a state-of-the-art, purpose-built Operations & Maintenance facility in Harwich International Port by RWE Renewables on behalf of the project partners.

Reporting to the Marine and Control Room Manager. The Control Room Operator will be based at the Galloper Wind Farm base location in Harwich on a 7 on / 7 off shift pattern and, following completion of significant system training and competency-based authorisation panels, will be responsible for managing the operational activities in the windfarm. This is a safety-critical role within the Galloper Windfarm Organisation. The Control Room is the daily Command and Control function of the Windfarm

Your future plans 

  • Act as an Operational Controller under RWE Wind Turbine Safety Rules. Responsible for transfer of control to work parties. Auditing returned documents from work parties and maintaining compliance with WTSR on-site.
  • Act as Plant Operator/Network Controller under RWE HV Safety Rules. Responsible for the release of plant to work parties. Operational and emergency HV switching, auditing returned documents from work parties and maintaining compliance with HV Rules on site.
  • Marine Coordination responsible for managing all vessel movements to/from and within the windfarm. Maintaining log of personnel and vessel locations. Conduct vessel audits/inspections.
  • Perform communication with offshore parties by means of marine VHF and satellite phone communications.
  • Act as Incident Controller in line with the site emergency Response Plans, managing/liaising with the emergency services as required during any incidents.
  • Responding to Grid commands / BOA’s to maintain Grid Compliance for the site.
  • Entering work notifications in the MMS Maintenance Management System for emerging work on faulted equipment.
  • Daily scheduling of work. Allocating resources, vessels, tools and equipment to complete the work. Including manifesting and parts pick lists.
  • Proactively monitor the Wind turbine and HV SCADA systems responsible for 1st Level resets of alarms on SCADA or raising notifications in MMS for planning and rectification of faults not reset.
  • Support facilities management with regards to management of contractors, operational inspections (weekly & monthly), maintenance and deliveries.
  • Produce daily, weekly and monthly performance reports.

Principle Accountabilities

Marine Coordination

Accountable for the safe coordination of all vessel and personnel movements within the windfarm and Pontoon. Monitoring and reacting to weather forecasts and informing the vessel Masters. Monitoring vessels approaching windfarm via radio communications. Coordination of rescue activities during an incident. Issuing and updating of Notice to Mariners. Coordinate oil spill response for the facilities, pontoon and offshore. Coordinating transit of dangerous goods offshore.

WTSR Operational Controller

Accountable for Checking all documentation for tasks (RAMS) have been accepted. Checking that team deployed is the same as planned. Accountable for cross-checking of technician competency for the task. Accountable for cross-checking of technician authorisation. Accountable for transfer of operational control to/from team and logging of all activities. Accountable for audits of WTSR documentation. Accountable for reporting all non-conformances. Responsible for seeking approval from the AE for asset restrictions

HV Plant Operator

Accountable for emergency switching of HV Systems. Accountable for Checking all documentation for tasks (RAMS) have been accepted. Checking that team deployed is the same as planned. Accountable for cross-checking technician competency for task. Accountable for cross-checking technician authorisation. Accountable for plant release to/from team and logging of all Trading & Grid Maintenance Notifications Emergency Response Security Reporting Facilities Management activities. Accountable for audits of HV Rules documentation. Accountable for reporting all non-conformances.

Trading & Grid

Accountable for reacting to BOA (Bid, Offer and Acceptance) instructions for National Grid. Accountable for EDL (Electronic Dispatch and Loading) to trading partners. Accountable for reporting under REMIT regulations.

Emergency Response

Accountable for the coordination of rescue activities in the field. Accountable for liaison with emergency services during an incident. Accountable for operating and managing Site Emergency Response Plan during an incident. Coordinating oil spill response.

Maintenance Notifications

Accountable for entering down equipment notifications into MMS to allow planning of future maintenance activities. Reacting to incoming maintenance activities and re-planning daily activities.

Facilities Management

Accountable for supporting the routine inspections and maintenance plan for the O&M facility. Conducting operational inspections, supervision for contractors and support in the delivery of good to the facility.

Your profile 

  • Experience in similar Control Room, marine coordination role or engineering background with Wind Turbine or High Voltage Safety Rules authorisation
  • Knowledge and authorisations within safety rules systems both Wind Turbine and High Voltage Safety Rules.
  • Enhanced communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience of electronic maintenance management systems
  • Have the capacity to manage a demanding and continuously fluctuating workload
  • Flexible approach to working hours as we operate the Wind Farm 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Knowledge of the wind industry would be advantageous but not necessary as training will be provided
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification.
  • IT literate with Microsoft Office packages and confident in learning new IT Systems. Experienced in writing procedures and updating documents.
  • 7-day on 7-day off rotation shift pattern
