Cooper Lomaz are working with an exciting organisation who are seeking a Control Software Engineer based in Brentwood. Within this new role you will be supporting the development and integration of specialist Management Control Systems, Engine Control Units (ECUs),and human-machine interfaces (HMI) used in heavy-duty / industrial applications.

Within this new position you will be collaborating with cross-functional teams including Chief Engineers, Principle Engineers and Electrical Engineers/Designers to ensure seamless integration of Controls into the overall system architecture. You will be supporting the design and implementation of control algorithms, communication protocols, and safety features to optimize the performance, efficiency, and safety of the systems. The appointed candidate will be able to understand the critical dependencies within the vehicle/machine/vessel and test cases, ensuring we cover integrated testing between components, systems and features and troubleshoot and debug hardware and software issues in ECUs, utilising diagnostic tools and methods to achieve reliable system performance.

Applicants will have proven commercial experience in PLC programming languages (IEC 61131-3 Standard) or other relevant languages used in embedded systems development such as C / C++, Python, Matlab. You will have experience in modelling and simulation software, such as Matlab / Simulink, coupled with familiarity of communication protocols and real time operating systems for embedded systems.

Experience / key skills:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or related Engineering field.
• Proven experience in the design, development of industrial control systems and testing of Embedded Controllers or PLCs controllers, preferably for hydrogen or alternative systems.
• Strong proficiency in PLC programming languages (IEC 61131-3 Standard) or other relevant languages used in embedded systems development such as C/C++, Python, Matlab.
• Strong proficiency in modelling and simulation software, such as Matlab/Simulink
• Familiarity with communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, etc.) and real-time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded systems.
• Knowledge of control algorithms, sensors, actuators, and feedback systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Effective communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Prior experience in the heavy-duty vehicle, industrial, or marine sectors is advantageous.
• Understanding of safety standards and regulations related to automotive or industrial control systems, including functional safety.
• Ability to travel 10% of the time to support new products sign-off, launch and quality actions. Travel may also include visiting the CMB.TECH Antwerp Headquarters and partners.
