About the role:
Astute’s Renewables team is exclusively retained due to longstanding and successful relationships, with a visionary client who are looking to decarbonise the UK road freight sector. The client intends to significantly contribute to cleaner air in our cities by offering refuelling to vans and HGVs by developing a refuelling network consisting of renewable natural gas, hydrogen and battery electric.

The Control Systems and Software Engineer role comes with a salary relevant to experience and can be initially a pert-time or full time position.

We’re looking for a Control Systems and Software Engineer to supervise and lead the specification, procurement, adaptation, development and installation of the remote control management system for the client’s on-site refuelling and recharging equipment at a network of refuelling and recharging station developments across the UK.

Responsibilities and duties:
Working side by side with the Director of Electrical and Systems Engineering (and with wider team support), as the Control Systems and Software Engineer you will:

* Lead the system level design of a remotely managed, operated and monitored system governing power, infrastructure and plant that supports EV charging, HVO and green gas refuelling sites across the UK.
* Define and manage the high-level requirements, provide the system architecture specification and the functional and technical requirements, including interface definition.
* Plan, test, validate, and supervise all aspects of the technical control system and embedded software design of the refuelling and recharging station control system and Software architecture.
* Identify, engage, procure, and proactively manage technical control system, software development and specialist contractors, consultants, and suppliers, with support from the wider team of project managers.
* Draft, specify, review, and validate specifications and scopes of work for technical control system engineering and Software development tasks for third party contractors, consultants and suppliers.
* Own and deliver high-level product validation, including testing and commissioning and end-user guidance and training materials, including for ongoing performance updates, operations and maintenance.
* Define, apply and review cyber-security protocols, and I/O lists to ensure compliance with safety and company standards, as well as technical quality standards with reference to industry norms and benchmarks.
* Lead the data engineering during 2024 to support a key data-driven geo-locational analysis project, as part of an international project consortium

Professional qualifications & experience:
We are looking for someone with the following:

* Experience in designing, commissioning, and testing control/SCADA systems. A background or experience in EV charging Control Systems and/or software development is highly beneficial.
* Strong experience of architectural design and delivery of software/Control Systems, including integration across several different platforms, including API implementation.
* Full stack capability is desirable.
* Experience in automatic and AI-informed code generation and core knowledge working directly with C, C++ and other relevant software programming languages.
* Knowledge of network protocols and awareness of industrial SCADA protocols (such as DNP3, ICCP and OPC).

* A degree in a relevant field
