Job Description

Due to continued growth, the position ofControl Systems Engineerhas become available to join oursuccessful engineering teambased inGloucester and Bristol.

The primary purpose of the PWR Technology Control Systems Engineer roles is to ensure that the requirements relating to nuclear safety are defined and adequately addressed within the design, and that the design integrity is maintained throughout the lifecycle (i.e. from design to as-built operating plant).

This is achieved by undertaking the Intelligent Customer activities associated with the specification, monitoring and acceptance of work performed by the Responsible Designer and various Control Systems equipment suppliers

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical oversight and acceptance of the protection and/or safety Control Systems throughout all phases of the development lifecycle (specification of requirements, design, manufacture, validation and commissioning)
  • Undertake technical review and acceptance of documentation
  • Support the resolution of technical and regulatory issues
  • Produce & review safety case documentation associated with the protection and/or safety Control Systems
  • Effectively plan and undertake surveillance activities
  • Provide oversight of verification and validation activities
  • Support interactions with the Office for Nuclear Regulation
  • Participate in technical meetings
  • Provide input to, and approval of, non-conformances and design changes
Qualifications
  • Degree (or equivalent) in relevant engineering discipline
  • Working towards Chartership or chartered engineer status would be desirable
  • Experience in design, substantiation, verification & validation, safety justification of high integrity software-based protection systems
  • Knowledge of nuclear sector standards applicable to the development of high integrity software-based protection systems (including BS EN 61513, BS EN 60880, BS EN 62138, BS EN 60987 and BS EN 61508)
  • Knowledge of ‘Independent Confidence Building Measures’ including statistical testing and static analysis techniques would be desirable
  • Understanding of the UK regulatory context and application of ALARP
Additional Information

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.

Regular travel to Gloucester (1 day/week) and Bristol or London (TBC).
