Controls Engineer, Battery Management Systems, Northamptonshire, £45,000 - £50,000 circa + BenefitsUnknown Recruitment is seeking a Controls Systems Engineer to join our R&D client due to continued growth. The Control Systems Engineer will be within the Battery Management Systems Team responsible for delivering the software on the BMS, including both safety and application specific software functions, at a high-quality standard that has been coded according to internal guidelines & standards, and tested with offline & rig testing capabilities.The Controls Systems Engineer – Battery Management System will have a primary focus on high-performance battery systems, the software developed will be for a range of battery vehicle applications (automotive, motorsport, marine, aerospace, and off-highway).This Control Systems engineer role will suit a candidate that will work well in a team, able to communicate with other departments, and take initiative to think “outside of the box” to resolve some of the unique challenges we face on our prototype development systems.Controls Engineer responsibilities: * Development of battery management system software algorithms in Mathworks’ Matlab/Simulink environment * Development of embedded software for microcontrollers in C (NXP, Texas Instruments): peripherals, bootloaders, SOTA. * Communication with the Test & Development team on cell testing requirements to feed battery models/maps * Support the Test & Development team during battery system commissioning sign-off * Able to be flexible on work location and prepared to travel within the UK and internationally on short assignments * Documenting & reporting battery system architecture & algorithm developments to the Head of Battery Management SystemsControl Systems Engineer requirements: * Knowledge of battery system architectures and battery management systems * Experience of using model-based development languages such as Matlab & Simulink * Experience in developing embedded software for microcontrollers in C * Knowledge of battery system algorithms such as state of charge, state of power, state of health, state of function, fault diagnostics, contactor control etc. * Ability to generate battery system commissioning & validation sign-off plans * Data analysis & reporting on system performance * Proactive, self-motivated with a keen attention for detail * Willing to learn new skills & problem solve on exciting, technically challenging projectsControls Engineer Desired requirements: * Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline * Experience of working on HaV systems, particularly in HaV battery packs at 400/800V * Familiar with laboratory equipment and test facilities * Experience in compliance engineering to external standards, such as battery handling, EMC, vehicle safety, functional safety IS(phone number removed) etc. * Familiar with measurement, calibration & diagnostic CAN software tools such as Vector’s software suite (CANalyser, CANape, CANoe). * Exposure to other coding languages (C, C++, C#, Python) * Familiar with good software practices, coding standards, version control/management, issue tracking, and testing * Basic knowledge of electronics & embedded microcontrollers (Texas Instruments, STMicroelectronics, NXP, Analogue Devices)
