Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home offers young people a safe and caring environment, where they will experience quality care, education, vocational and life skills training.
Working within the catering team, you will help to ensure young people have access to nutritious meals and a quality, varied choice of menu.
There are 2 part-time positions available: 35.12 per week & 29.5 hours per week. Please state clearly in your application which role you wish to apply for.
What you will be doing
- On a daily basis, you will prepare and serve meals to young people and staff, ensuring a good choice of menu.
- Liaising with contractors and suppliers, you will to order supplies, monitor and rotate stock, and maintain accurate records.
- Regularly, you will assist with routine cleaning tasks, ensuring hygiene, health and safety in the kitchen are maintained, and report any unsafe practices or equipment to the Facilities Manager.
- It will be key for you to provide assistant to other members of the team.
- You will report to the Facilities Manager any concerns regarding the eating habits of young people
- You will monitor daily temperature recording and other documentation as required by policies and procedures.
What we need from you
- You must have NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Catering/Food preparation, or the commitment to undertake this qualification
- It is essential you have knowledge of health & safety issues and Food Hygiene legislation
- You will have knowledge of specialist diets e.g. vegetarian, vegan, diabetic and cultural and religious requirements
- It is required for you to have experience of cooking for large groups of people with an ability to carry out required duties within specified timescales.
- You may have previous supervisory experience
- You may already have a Food Hygiene Certificate
- Ideally, you will also have experience of working with children and/or young people and experience of working in a multi-racial environment, or of working with people from other minority ethnic groups.
