Copy Editor

EMJ is looking for an enthusiastic Copy Editor to help produce high value content for our journals, newsletters and website by copy editing content. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is looking to further their publishing career within a unique and growing organisation.

Expectations

• Copy edit content to a high standard by identifying errors in language, grammar and punctuation of journal content, email campaigns, and website blog posts, ensuring readability and clear communication of scientific information
• Edit and proof text, tables, and figures, spotting errors or inconsistencies, and verifying accuracy of information
• Ensure that published content adheres to the EMJ house style
• Work with the rest of the editorial team on the timelines for upcoming issues
• Write promotional content and create newsletters
• Take part in the production of our podcasts and webinars
Support other departments and external contacts through being an enthusiastic team player

Experience Required

• Excellent command of written and spoken English
• Strong computer skills – MS (Excel and Word)
• Ability to learn quickly and manage/prioritise a high-volume workload linked to tight deadlines
• Passion for editing and improving scientific text
• A high level of attention to detail, taking pride in the precision and accuracy of own work
• Bachelor’s degree
• Enthusiastic and dedicated team player
• Knowledge of Adobe InCopy/suite, and audio editing skills are preferable but not essential
• Experience in copy editing or experience working in a digital publishing setting (desirable but not essential)

Key Information

• Salary: £25,000
• Reports to: Anaya Malik (Editorial Manager)
• Hours: 8.30am – 5pm, Mon-Fri
• Working pattern: Up to 2 days flexibility to work from home (FT in office during probation)
• Location: This role is based onsite in our London/Moorgate office
