This role has a starting salary of £35,730 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week.


We are excited to be hiring a new Coroner's Officer to join our fantastic team based in Woking. As a Coroner's Officer you will provide a high-quality service to bereaved families by progressing cases efficiently and with empathy.

About the Role

We are looking for a Coroner's Officer who can work at pace to make a difference to the lives of people who have lost family members, loved ones or friends. This role requires being able to deliver the legal duties required compassionately, whilst being personally, emotionally resilient when dealing with what may be difficult or traumatic situations. Your excellent customer service and communication skills will tie in with your ability to relate to people from backgrounds which reflect the diversity of the people who live and work in Surrey.

This role is key to helping investigate where circumstances of a death may have been avoidable and so help prevent that from happening in future. We believe this is a hugely rewarding role that is of benefit to the residents of Surrey.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Experience of working within a coronial service, the police, legal profession or other investigatory or regulatory profession
  • Display analytical skills to perform this investigation driven role
  • Experience of providing high levels of customer care and professionalism to members of the public
  • Ability to write well structured, clear and concise reports using information gathered from multiple sources (for example, from families, GPs, the police or other health professionals),
  • Excellent IT skills and the ability to follow defined processes in a timely manner.

This role requires travel across the county and for the successful candidate to be part of an on-call rota. The role holder will need to have the willingness and ability to travel around the county to meet the demands of the role.
