Job description

This fantastic opportunity has opened up due to the retirement of the current manager. Be part of our modern and vibrant Financial Services Team.

About the Role:

As the Corporate Risk Manager, your main purpose is to lead the development and integration of effective strategic and operational risk management practices throughout the Council. Ensure compliance with internal and external corporate requirements, British Standards, Codes of Practice, and Professional Standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the development and embedding of strategic and operational risk management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate requirements and external standards.
  • Coordinate the Council's Risk Management function across all Directorates and relevant Partner arrangements.
  • Manage the performance and activities of Risk Services, under the strategic direction of the Service Manager, Internal Audit and Risk.
  • Provide regular updates on the effectiveness of the Council's risk management to the Audit and Governance Committee and senior management.
  • Assist those presenting risk management items to various committees and senior management boards.
  • Contribute to achieving Risk Services' key aim of embedding effective risk management processes throughout the Council.

Qualifications/Training:

  • Full membership of a CCAB Body, preferably CIPFA or IIA, or equivalent qualifications via Risk Management Bodies.
  • Current membership of the Institute of Risk Management and/or Association of Local Authority Risk Managers.
  • Evidence of formal Management Development up to diploma level.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge of legislative, corporate governance, risk management, and performance management frameworks related to Local Government.
  • Understanding of the Council's long-term strategies.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience in Risk Management and/or Audit, including managerial roles.
  • Experience at a high level of implementing or enhancing/embedding strategic/operational risk management frameworks in complex organisations.
  • Experience in identifying complex problems and solutions.
